Although organic pigments account for less than inorganic pigments in coatings, with the continuous advancement of coating technology and the development of coatings, as well as the characteristics inherent in organic pigments, the use of organic pigments in coatings is becoming more widespread. Organic pigment market analysis


From the perspective of domestic production, China's organic pigment production has remained at around 18-22 million tons for a long time, accounting for about 40% of the world total. In recent years, affected by the pressure of internal and external demand markets and inflation, the production pressure of the organic pigment industry has increased, accelerating the transformation of enterprises, adjusting product mix, and promoting energy conservation and emission reduction have become the focus of organic pigment enterprises.


After adjustment and transformation, the organic pigment industry is actively developing towards high-end and nationalization, strengthening technological innovation and new product research and development, and improving product profitability. In 2014, the output of organic pigments in China exceeded 300,000 tons. In 2016, the output of organic pigments reached 328,200 tons, showing a steady growth trend.

Organic pigments can be classified into azo pigments, phthalocyanine pigments, triarylmethane pigments, and polycyclic pigments according to their structure. From the proportion, the proportion of azo pigments is high, reaching 59%; followed by phthalocyanine pigments, accounting for 24%.

In terms of import and export, the organic pigment industry is affected by factors such as domestic and international economic situation, changes in global trade demand, environmental protection and industrial upgrading. The domestic organic pigment industry's total production capacity has shown a certain volatility trend. In 2015, the export volume of organic pigments reached 141,899.24 tons, and the import volume was 16,750.16 tons.

According to the above data, China is a major producer and exporter of organic pigments in the world, and developed countries are the main markets for organic pigments. With the improvement of China's organic pigment industry, it is expected to gain a greater voice in the future.


Application of organic pigments


Organic pigments are mainly used in the fields of plastics, inks, and coatings, with the coatings sector accounting for approximately 35%, annual growth rates of approximately 2.5%, and sales growth of 3%. The organic pigments used in coatings are monoazo yellow, enamel pigments, etc., and are used in three major fields of architectural coatings, automotive coatings and coil coatings.


In architectural coatings, as an important constituent of latex paints, the choice and use of organic pigments directly affects the color retention of latex paints, and the understanding of pigment properties and applications can guide the production of high quality latex paints. Organic pigments are not affected by physical and chemical factors during use, and are generally insoluble in the medium used, and always exist in the original crystal state. The coloration of organic pigments is achieved by selective absorption and scattering of light.


In automotive coatings, pigments for automotive coatings are a high-quality colorant because they are required to meet the weather resistance, heat resistance, acid rain resistance, and ultraviolet ray resistance of metal surface coatings. Therefore, the application of organic pigments in automotive coatings must have light stability, chemical resistance, migration resistance, and thermal stability; for automotive topcoats, such as metallic glitter paints, organic pigments need to have high transparency, and The hiding power of inorganic pigments complements each other.


In the aspect of coil coatings, coil coatings are divided into functional topcoats, primers and backcoats. Primers are mainly epoxy, polyester and polyurethane; topcoats and backcoats are mainly PVC plastic. Glues, polyesters, polyurethanes, acrylics, fluorocarbons and silicon modified polyesters, etc. In the production process of color plates, 20-25kg of coil coating is consumed per ton of galvanized sheet, and the topcoat of pigments accounts for about 70% of the amount of coating used. Common colors include white ash, sea blue and blush, among which white ash accounts for about 50%, sea blue accounts for about 30%, blush accounts for about 10%, and other colors account for about 10%. The organic pigments in sea blue and blush account for about 3%-5% of the amount of coil coating used.
